You may have heard about a chip shortage. This has affected everything from PCs to vehicles. You may also know there is a computer chip not only in modern cars, but in most modern car key fobs, shown below.
Not only that, but there are shortages of various types of metal too, including: steel, brass, and copper, all of which are common components in everything from door hardware to keys.
Besides all the current shortages, manufacturers often make changes to design and hardware. That front door handle set that was new 20 years ago when you bought your house may not be available anymore. So a similar set may need to be ordered, which could mean your front door needs to be modified slightly to fit the hardware.
All of this means, it could take a few days to a few weeks for some specialty pieces to be ordered. The good news is, we will communicate with you and keep you informed throughout the process.
We don’t have the buying power of the big box stores (see Blog post #1 “About Us”), so we may not have every color, design, or compatible keyway of hardware. That is why we often ask for photos, and spend as much time as it takes on the phone with you, to order the correct parts to have on hand when we come to your home. We don't like to arrive unprepared, only to have to come back a second time with the correct hardware, resulting in a second service charge.
